The Daily Tip Jar

One of the most important numbers in your financial portfolio is your credit score.

The best thing you can do for yourself to help maintain or improve your current financial situation is make sure your credit is unblemished with unpaid credit card accounts and other bills. Below are just some of the many reasons as to why you should order and review your credit report information on a yearly basis. The fact is most people have no idea where they stand regarding their current credit situation and of those that do know, many don’t care. This is why many customers’ personal credit becomes a mess and why their credit score is lower than what it should be…because many consumers never take the time to order their credit report and review it for mistakes, errors, or missing information.

One of the primary determining factors of your credit score is whether or not you pay your bills on time or not.

Remember, especially with today’s financial economics, your risk to a new potential lender is determined by your credit score, and a low credit score determines how much of a risk you appear to be. There are several reasons why you should order your credit report and regularly review your credit information.

The most important and first reason why you should do this is to ensure the accuracy of your credit report.

The information contained in your report can directly affect many different aspects of your life. Surprised? Yes, your credit score will determine whether or not you will be given a car or home loan, how much you’ll have to pay for insurance, what interest rate you’ll be charged on your loans, and even whether or not an employer will choose to hire you. Given the tremendous importance of your credit report, you would be wise to do what you can to ensure that the information contained in it is as accurate as possible.

Secondly, regular credit monitoring also allows you avoid issues like identity theft.

A research shows that about 15 million Americans are victims of identity theft every year, and for many of these victims, it can take years and lots of hard work to get their records back on track. People who regularly monitor their credit can identify suspicious activity early and can then take action immediately to stop a potential identity thief in his or her tracks. Therefore, monitoring your credit is extremely important because the sooner you become aware of suspicious activity on your credit report, the sooner you can take corrective action and the better your chances of limiting the damage.

As important as credit scores are in many aspects of our daily lives, it is surprising that many people do not monitor their credit regularly, and many have never even seen a copy of their credit report. Be proactive by monitoring your credit regularly. A good credit rating is one of your most precious financial assets.
