The Daily Tip Jar

Going out for date night can be fun but going out all the time adds up in cost pretty quickly.  If you are trying to save money for your future or your first home, you want to spread your money as far as it can go.  Try some of these fun alternative date night ideas that are fun, different and most importantly, won’t break the piggybank.

Movie night in

Keep the party at home and create your own cinema experience.  Stock up on all the $1 movie candy they sell at grocery stores and make your own popcorn on the stove (it’s way better than microwave, easy to do, and gives you more of a movie experience.)  Rent the latest comedy you missed in theaters or ask a friend for a suggestion, commit, and go with it.  Try to have the movie picked out ahead of time and plan your evening.  Nothing kills a date vibe like playing the Netflix shuffle asking each other, “What do you want to watch?”  Keep your phones on silent and enforce a no phones rule – they wouldn’t allow you to check your phones at the movies, would they?

Stargazing for two

Set up some blankets, pillows, and candles outside and have a romantic night under the stars.  There are a lot of apps you can download on your phone that will tell you what stars you are currently looking at in the night sky.  You can even make a picnic with some wine and cheese to take it to the next level.

Breakfast al fresco

Check out your local farmers market or craft fair.  They usually have great food trucks, homemade pastries and lots of other booths and offerings to take in.  Get up early, or not so early, and grab some breakfast on the go while you take in all that the local markets and sellers have to offer.

Pub trivia

A lot of bars and pubs host game nights or pub trivia night at least once a week.  They usually have specials on food and drinks during these events and it’s a great way to get out and meet some new couple friends as well.  As long as you and your significant other don’t mind a little friendly competition, this is a fun way to challenge each other and learn something new in the process.

Art connoisseurs

While art galleries might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s good to get out and experience all forms of culture, even if nothing but to agree to disagree on what’s popular or trending.  Broadening your horizons together as couple is something that will strengthen your bond and connection.  There are lots of free art galleries, outdoor art installations, and exhibits that will keep the creative juices flowing.

Switch up your dating life with some new experiences.  The same date night out routine can get you into a rut and then you’re spending money on something that isn’t even truly enjoyable.  Try these ideas for something completely different and cost effective at the same time.
