The Daily Tip Jar

One of the most important choices you ever have to make is what you will be when you grow up? We are asked this question over and over, starting when we are so little that we think we can be superheroes and princesses. The answer changes as we live and have more experiences. This is entirely normal. Here are some common reason whys we have a hard time narrowing down what we want to be

More Research Needed

The amount of time to focus on learning about different careers in school is limited. There are so many different jobs, yet we tend to only hear about the most popular. This leaves you with a lot of research to do on your own. Start with talking to family and friends about their career choice. Then branch off and learn about any area that interests you and the possible jobs you could get in them. The more research, the better.

Lack of Experience

It is hard to join a career without experience. Life experiences help us learn about ourselves. What we like and what we do not like. Get experience any way you can. Even when in school, it would be beneficial to take part-time jobs in places we are interested in working. Volunteering would be another option to give you a chance to observe the career paths you are considering. Find out if you are cut out for the job before spending too much time and money.

Jumping In

Don’t sign your future away to fast. The way to a miserable career life is getting into a career too soon. It would help if you had time to look at all the options and find the most suited job. The more time you spend going down a path, the harder it will be for you to switch. The time and especially the money you spent will feel wasted and keep you in a career you do not like. Take the time to search out before deciding what to do for the rest of your working life. Schooling is expensive. Make sure you are ready before finalizing your degree path.

Fear

Fear is a hard thing to overcome. The fear of making the wrong choice can keep you from making any decision at all. Will it make you happy? Will you be able to make enough money? There are so many what-if questions that will stall your progress. After you have done the work and put in the time to research and reflect, trust yourself. The fear may never disappear completely, but it will lessen as you move forward with your thought-out choices. If you do the work, it will be unlikely that you will make a mistake.

The rest of your life doesn’t have to be thoroughly planned out. Use the life experience you have to make a decision. With that choice, you will continue to learn and grow.
